    Biography:

    Claire van Beek is an emerging filmmaker from New Zealand who has a strong focus on performance direction and female- centric stories. After graduating from Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School with a Bachelor's Degree in Performing Arts, Claire worked on commercials with Jake Scott (Alien, Welcome to the Rileys), and Garth Davis (Lion, Top of the Lake) before going to Los Angeles to do an internship with acclaimed screenwriting/ directing consultant Joan Scheckel (Whale Rider, Little Miss Sunshine).On her return to New Zealand Claire began writing and directing for theatre, writing 5 one-act plays, one full-length play, and subsequently becoming a "NZ Young Playwright of the Year". Claire then moved into film where she co-directedshort films, including Claytal Attraction which won Best Animation NZ at the 48 Hour Film Awards. In 2018 Claire travelled to Oregon to work with Debra Granik (Winter's Bone) on her latest film Leave No Trace.Since directing her short film Daniel - edited by Oscar winner John Gilbert (Lord of the Rings, Hacksaw Ridge) - Claire is developing her feature films with the support of NZ Film Commission, Script to Screen NZ's Film Up Programme, DEGNZ's Female Film-maker Incubator and MIFF's Accelerator Programme.

Synopsis



A young novice at an isolated convent is confronted with the sudden desire to explore her sexual self in the wake of meeting a blue-tongued lizard.
