Maputo, Mozambique. It is a Sunday afternoon – the Feira Popular is coming to life. The most
popular ride – the mini planes – already has a long line of children eager to feel the thrill of
real flight. Entertainment is not free, although for the wealthy families this is of no concern.
Gito, Babu, Nuno and Lisa live on the streets; they have spent all week begging for spare
change and searching the rubbish for left‐over food. But today is Sunday and they too are at
the Feira. They weave their way in between the rides, scouring their surroundings for that
elusive opportunity: today they will take their chance to jump on a ride – and feel like children again
